Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Harsh Vardhan launched SERB-POWER scheme on Thursday that goals to encourage women scientists and researchers. The scheme promotes women to give support and connect with mainstream and pursue their scientific profession interest.
Speaking on E-platform Dr Harsh Vardhan accentuated the importance of empowering women researchers in the field of Science & Technology. He mentioned globally, only 30% of the world’s researchers are women while in India 18.6% of full-time R&D personnel are women.
SERB-POWER scheme will have two components, SERB-POWER Fellowship and SERB-POWER Research grants. Women Researchers between the age 35-55 yrs are eligible for SERB-POWER Fellowship. The fellowship amount will be Rs 15000/month in addition to regular income including Research grant of Rs 10 lakhs.
SERB POWER Grants will promote women researchers by funding them under two categories, level 1 & level 2.
In Level 1 applicants will be from IITs, IISERs, IISc, NITs, Central Universities, and National Labs of Central Government Institutions. They will be eligible for funding up to Rs 60 lakhs for a duration of three years.
In Level 2 applicants will be from State Universities / Colleges and Private Academic Institutions. They will be eligible for funding up to Rs 30 lakhs for a duration of three years.
The Scheme launch session was attended by Professor Ashutosh Sharma, Chairman, SERB & Secretary, DST, Professor Sandeep Verma, Secretary, SERB and Scientists from Ministry of Science and Technology.
