Windows 10 password problems, playing chaos with passwords

Microsoft Windows 10 users were facing a critical issue that makes PCs messes up with the username and passwords for installed apps, such as Outlook. This bug was reported by users using Windows 10 version 2004.

Microsoft on November 06, released a note mentioning, “After installing Windows 10 Version 2004 Build 19041.173 and related updates, you find that Outlook and other applications do not remember your password anymore.”

Apparently, the bug doesn’t affect Windows 10’s login while affecting Microsoft apps, such as Outlook, OneDrive and Office Apps. According to some, it may also affect the data backed up to Microsoft services to sync across other devices.

Some HP specific devices with HP Customer participation utility that creates a task and causes the issue. Also, some other unknown apps are also affecting users with system-wide password chaos.

How to fix this password problem bug

In the same released note, Microsoft recommends users, to launch PowerShell in administrator mode, by pressing Windows Key + X and click on the PowerShell (Admin) option. Following over it just copy and paste the below command on the PowerShell and press enter.

Get-ScheduledTask | foreach { If (([xml](Export-ScheduledTask -TaskName $_.TaskName -TaskPath $_.TaskPath)).GetElementsByTagName("LogonType").'#text' -eq "S4U") { $_.TaskName } }

Users will see any Tasks listed from the PowerShell output, make a note of them.

Next, open Windows Task Scheduler and disable any tasks you found from the above command. Using these steps:

    1. In the Windows 10 Search box, type Task Scheduler and then open the Task Scheduler app.
    2. Locate the task in the Window (HP Customer participation), or other tasks from the Windows PowerShell output.
    3. Right-click the task and choose Disable.
    4. After you disable the task, restart Windows.
