In India, Twitter has announced the most tweeted categories and updates of the year. The tweet announcing Anushka Sharma’s pregnancy by Virat Kohli was the most-liked tweet of the year while the selfie by Tamil actor Vijay with fans was India’s most retweeted tweet. #COVID19 was the most tweeted subject on current affairs, while #StudentLivesMatter was the most tweeted topic on the movement of people.

The most used emoji on Twitter in 2020 was the laughing emoji, and the most tweeted film hashtag was #DilBechara. IPL 2020 was also the most-tweeted-about sporting event and the most tweeted about web series was Mirzapur 2.
Twitter estimates there were over 7,000 tweets a minute about TV and movies worldwide this year. Talks about #COVID19, #SushantSinghRajput tributes, and #Hathras tweets made it to the most tweeted hashtags in current affairs. Furthermore, #Binod has become 2020’s most tweeted meme.

Twitter adds that this year, #Ramayan, #Pokiri, and #Mahabharat made a comeback as nostalgic conversations, while the website addressed passions such as #Photography, #Yoga, and #Poetry. This year, Big Boss was the most tweeted reality show.
This year also brought a sense of appreciation for our frontline staff, Twitter says. Tweets expressing gratitude increased by 20% globally, with doctors (+135%) and teachers (+30%) being particularly recognized. Based on data identified from January 1 to November 15, Twitter says it has announced these accolades.
