Microsoft Office 365 apps for Macs with M1 starts rolling out

Microsoft begins to roll out Office 365 apps form Apple M1 Macs. These apps include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote are Universal Apps that can run natively on Apple M1 Chips. The company says this new version of Office 365 Apps will work faster and better on the new Macs while delivering “great” on Macs based on Intel processors.

Earlier Microsoft Office 365 apps were able to run on newer Macs through Rosetta 2 translation layer in macOS Big Sur. Now, these apps are designed to run on various architectures without emulation. Microsoft Fluent UI design system is seen throughout Office 365 apps. The company also enabled support for iCloud accounts on the new Outlook App giving power to the users to use work as well as personal emails, contacts and calendars into a single app. However, the iCloud Account support isn’t present yet in the app but is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.

According to Microsoft, Mac users with automatic updates turned on will start getting these updates from today itself. However, Microsoft Office 356 apps are available to download on Macs based on M1 chips like MacBook Air (M1, version 2020), MacBook Pro (M1, version 2020, 13″), and Mac mini (version 2020) via the Apple App Store. Moreover Microsoft Edge Canary for Apple Silicon released.

Office 365 Apps also includes several new features like new collaboration capabilities, including shared calendars and a new commenting experience for Word and the dictation toolbar with voice commands coming for Word and Outlook on Mac M1 devices.
