Huawei takes self-sufficiency path towards survival

The soaring ties with the USA have forced Chinese companies to adopt a different approach towards their businesses. The tech giant 'Huawei' plans to build its chip plant in Shanghai, not to bank on American technology for its telecom business with ever-rising US sanctions.

The recent announcement of China's five-year plan, aim for greater economic self-sufficiency to develop its technology. Adopting the self-suffice plan, the chip plant will help Huawei with no prior experience in chip-making technology for a sustainable future for the company.

The initial fabrication is to build advanced 28nm chips to make smart TV's and 'internet of things' devices for Huawei. The plant would be operated by partner Shanghai IC and R&D Center, a chip research company backed by the city's government.
