Apple seems to end iOS support to iPhone 6s series along with the older iPhone SE (2016). Moreover, these Apple devices are powered by Apple's A9 processor meanwhile the latest iPhone 12 lineup houses A14 SOC. iPhones are famous for their longer software support than Android smartphone but this time it seems iOS 14.2 will be the last iOS updates for these Apple devices.
The news broke out after a Hebrew-language site, The Verifier, reported Apple iPhone 7 series will receive iOS 15 update, resulting in iPhone 6s series and the iPhone SE (2016) aren't on the list. Although these older iPhones were getting software support quite a long time, as the iPhone 6s lineup got six years of software support while iPhone SE gets five and a half for the same.
It is expected that Apple will be announcing the iOS 15 at WWDC in summer next year. By that time iPhone 6s series and the first-generation iPhone SE might become dated. Although the newer devices iPhone 8 series and seventh generation iPod Touch will definitely be receiving the iOS 15 update alongside iPhone X series and iPhone 11 lineup. Moreover, iPadOS and watchOS are expected to arrive in September 2021.
