Ola, the ridesharing company is planning to get into electric scooter manufacturing according to a report. India's largest mobility platform is at present in talks with multiple state governments for 100 acres of land to set-up the world's largest e-scooter facility.
The reports come right after Ola acquires Holland-based Etergo, owner of the App Scooter electric brand. The government's focus to bring down pollution and reduce dependency on fossil fuel has started giving incentives to companies in the electric ecosystem. Due to a lack of investments in production units and infrastructure, the incentives have not yet benefited in establishing the projects.
But the recent promotion of clean automotive technology by the government, companies expect the project to launch soon. Ola plans to start production in the next 18 months. The company will soon compete with other fuel run two-wheeler companies like TVS, Bajaj Auto, Honda, and Hero Moto-Corp.
